The second leg of our trip took us to Croatia.  We left our lovely apartment with the splendid view of the Danube and took a taxi to Budapest Deli station.  There are four main stations, serving Northern, Eastern, Western and Southern routes.  Deli trains runs to the South.

It was a 6 hour journey, much of the time traveling along the shores of Lake Balaton which is the largest lake in Europe.  It is 78 km in length 14km wide at its widest point and on the Southern shore we passed many summer homes.  It is a favourite tourist destination.

We had arrived late on the evening and had a short walk to the apartment which was in an old building, but you can't judge a book by its cover.  This apartment was on ground level at the back of the building and as a result was very quiet.  It was very well equipped as were all the apartments we rented through VRBO.

We went back the station and took a hop-on hop -off bus that did a circuit of the city.  We actually stayed on the one and a half circuits to get a good idea of the lie of the land and ended up in the old town.  The old town sits on a hilly region and is joined to the lower town by a funicular.

Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary

We found our way to the Cathedral which involved quite a bit of climbing steps up and down.  The cathedral has two spires which are apparently always under repair.
